CoolSavings E-mail contains offers and savings notices that may link directly to the advertiser's Web site or to an offer on our site. E-mail is an efficient vehicle for our advertisers to acquire new customers, increase site traffic and re-contact existing customers. Test the effectiveness of various offer creatives and apply the learning to your online and offline marketing campaigns.
Text Style
Text should be written in the third person.
Text Limit
CoolSavings recommends a word count between 80-150 words for successful campaigns. Generally, one to three paragraphs is sufficient. We place a hard return after 60 characters to keep line lengths easy for members to read.
Links
All client-supplied links will be extracted from text layouts and substituted with my.coolsavings.com links. CoolSavings uses a tool to generate a unique trackable link for each client-supplied link. This does not change the client's link whatsoever or effect client tracking. If it is text e-mail then the client’s link is embedded under the hot my.coolsavings.com link.

Although design will dictate the number of links, we recommend less than 5, including the “Save Now” links.
Other Information
- Subject Line
Each e-mail offer should include a short text that clearly states the savings offer and benefit. We recommended the brand name be included and the length of the text kept to 60 characters (8 words) or less. It is difficult for members to read capitalized words; no more that one capitalized word is suggested in the subject line. We can include the member’s first name in the subject line, too.
Subject line text should not intentionally mislead or over sensationalize (i.e., "Your home may have termites!" will not be accepted) the offer. Use of exclamation points (!) are discouraged, and we will not use more than one in a subject line.
- Offer
An e-mail offer must be valid for 7 days after the date of transmission to ensure that CoolSavings members have ample opportunity to take advantage of the offer.
- Closings
We do not include formal closings (such as Sincerely, Tom Smith, VP of Marketing) in our e-mails.

- Address Purge
E-mail address purge requests may be submitted in either Word with one e-mail address in each line and a hard return at the end of the line or in Excel with one e-mail address per row in column A.
- Targeting
All targeting information must be submitted to your client services representative.
- Salutation
All e-mails contain the salutation, "Dear (first name of member)".
- From Line
The e-mail is always from CoolSavings.
- E-mail Replies
All e-mail replies go to CoolSavings. (info@coolsavings.com)
- Viral E-mail
Our links contain unique household information, and we will not permit forwarded e-mails.
- Unsubscribe messages
CoolSavings places an unsubscribe message at the bottom of each e-mail and will not accept any other unsubscribe messages.
- Frames
When an e-mail links to an external site, CoolSavings will add a 55 pixel high "frame" to top of the redirect site (the width will be equivalent to the width of the browser window. This frame serves as a way to remind members the nature of the advertiser's offer and can include information such as savings value and coupon codes. The maximum length of frame text is 100 characters.
- Grammatical and Spelling Errors
CoolSavings corrects grammatical and spelling errors in body copy without approval by the client. If an error is in a client-supplied graphic, we will alert the list broker and proceed on her/his recommendation. Errors in graphics may delay transmissions.
- Additional Substitution Fields
CoolSavings will evaluate on a case-by-case basis adding substitution fields to the text (i.e., including a member's last name).
